Services

Community LAMDA provides independent living support services for individuals, who are afflicted with severe and persistent mental illness resulting in a significant level of disability, particularly those afflicted with schizophrenia.  There are two facilities, owned by Calgary Housing Company.

Killarney: 1920-29th ST.  S.W. provides sixteen (two bedroom) apartments for 32 consumers.

Mission: 316-20th Ave S.W. provides 30 (one bedroom) apartments for 30 consumers.

Both locations have support workers working Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 who are responsible for the intake of new consumers to the LAMDA program.  They also offer social, leisure, educational and skill development activities.  These include: meal planning, grocery shopping, household maintenance, money management, transportation, personal hygiene, health concerns, administrative assistance, leisure and community activities, goal setting, strategy and evaluation.  Services are provided on an individual basis as well as in group settings, such as support counselling, advocacy and liaison with mental health case management.  Monthly general meetings and Tenant Representative Meetings are held to discuss and suggest activities of interest.

  • Calgary Housing Company is responsible for the building operations and rent.   LAMDA’s staff communicates with Calgary Housing on an ongoing basis regarding consumer concerns, rent review form, apartment inspections and maintenance concerns.  Most communication between consumers and Calgary Housing is directed through LAMDA’s staff so they can provide the support that is needed.  Community LAMDA’s staff also meets on an ongoing basis with Calgary Housing Property Managers and Social Workers to discuss any concerns.
